Let's Talk

Let's Talk activity to encourage healthy conversation around the dinner tableAs much as I love coming up with my own ideas, this is one I just had to steal.  It is my all-time favourite activity to do with my boys and can last up to weeks or months! So a shout out to my good friend for this amazing activity!

“Let’s Talk” is a super simple way to encourage conversation around the dinner table plus use a bit of imagination.

All you need is a:
1.      Mason jar (A tin can or Tupperware will do too!)
2.      Paper
3.      Pen (any writing utensil is fine)
4.      Scissors

With your kids, write down any type of question you can think of.  These could range from very silly, to serious, could be geared towards Christmas or if you home-school, geared towards a unit that you are currently working through.

Once you’ve written down as many questions as you can think of, (I like to start with 10- 20) cut them out into strips and pop them into your jar.  During meal times let each family member choose a question to read aloud and have everyone answer it.

This activity is wonderful because it can stay all year long.  You can continue popping new questions into the jar as you and your children think of them.  The boys and I had just as much fun coming up with questions as we did answering them during meal times!

Example questions if you need some inspiration:
·         If you could have any type of pizza right now, what would the toppings be?
·         If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
·         What’s something you’re looking forward to this Christmas?
·         What’s your favourite part about Fall?
·         If you could create an invention today, what would it be?

There is no limit to these questions!  Have fun thinking up questions, and have fun answering them together!
