Clay creations
Exploring with clay! If you still have some clay from a few weeks ago when we made "pinch pots", pull it out again because today we are exploring with clay!
I love exploring with natural items and clay is one of those unique items we get from our earth. Keep in mind while you explore with clay that it is a little messy so you'll want a good space to work at, as well as a small amount of water to help form it.
I used only clay, but you could consider adding other natural items such as pebbles, pinecones, or shells. Adding other items to your clay explorations can add more room for imagination!
I also like to add a provocation. A provocation is an item that you put out to inspire creativity-especially if your child is stuck on what to create. This can be anything from a book, to a vase of flowers or a basket of beautiful materials.
I chose to put out a book of animals and Mishael ended up making a giraffe, which led to many thought provocating conversations about them. If you'd like, leave the clay out to dry for a day and paint it. If you think your children might want to continue constructing, simply place a wet paper towel on top of the clay and you'll be able to return to it the next day.
Remember to ask open-ended questions as you work with the clay- how does it feel? What can we create today? And so on!
