Canada day activities to do with your children | Enriched Children
Over the last couple of years, I haven't made much of a fuss over Canada Day- after all my boys were so young. To them, it was just another day. Now that my oldest is nearing 4 years old however, special events and holidays suddenly seem much more fun.
At 35 weeks pregnant and with 1.5 and 3.5-year-old boys we definitely don't plan to be out all day. So after our morning out, here's what we'll be doing at home this Canada Day!
Since my boys go to bed before 7pm, we'll all be missing the fireworks, but I did find this amazing "milky firework" activity to do together with them from "One Time Through" at http://onetimethrough.com/milky-fireworks-for-victoria-day/
Pour a couple cups of milk into a tray or baking dish and add a few drops here and there of food colouring. Have your children dip a popsicle stick that has been dipped in dish detergent into the milk. The milk will shoot away from the popsicle stick creating a firework-like effect!
The other activity we are doing is Canada Day playdough. This is as simple as it sounds! Use your favourite playdough recipe or pick some up at the store. We kept half of it white and the other half red using a few drops of food colouring.
Try making a Canadian flag, maple leaf and so on!
You could also go hunting for some real maple leaves to add another sensory and nature aspect to your playdough play.
Happy Canada Day!
