How to make staying at home fun for your Family! | Enriched Children
Many of us are taking precautions to stay at home and take preventative measures to social distance ourselves. As fun as it can be to stay cozy, watch movies, & hang out in our pj's all day, our kids may start to get antsy.
I've come up with a list of some practical and fun ideas for you and your kids to do while we take this time to stay home. This blog is all about intentionally connecting with our kids and what a better opportunity to stay positive and to do just this while we are all at home together.
Use this to be a positive time with your family!
1. Get outside!
Go for walk, ride bikes, have a picnic in your backyard- there is no reason why we have to stay cooped up indoors all day long. The fresh air and sun will do you so much good!
2. Scavenger hunt
This can be as simple or as complex as you make it. I love doing these outdoors with natural items- you can do this indoors too!
3. Cooking together
While you are all at home together, take some time to allow your children to cook meals with you or bake a batch of muffins. It's a great way to bond and to kill time as I'm quite sure cooking a meal with your little one will take a lot longer than it would you by yourself!
4. Movie night.
Escape the news for a night and put on a movie that you all can enjoy together. Pop some popcorn or have a favourite treat you might not usually have and make this a special family time.
5. Puzzles & Games
Got a few puzzles you haven't done in ages or a closet for of board games? Now is the time to bring them out. Slow down, make a pot of tea or coco and enjoy the simplicity of a puzzle together or a board game.
6. Bath time!
Yup. I said it. Bath time. On days when the weather is miserable and I don't have a vehicle to get around, I put my kids in the bath in the middle of the day and they LOVE it. It's a whole lot better than putting a cartoon on and if your kids are like mine, they will stay in there well past their fingers being pruny!
7. Art collage
Whether you've got some spare paper at home or manage to pick up a canvas from the dollar store, putting out paints and other art materials like ribbons, straws, tissue paper, sparkles etc. can give your children a space to be creative and imagine without a lot of prep work on your end.
8. Gardening
Spring is here and it couldn't be a better time to garden! We have a lot of seeds left over from last year and have enjoyed getting our fingers dirty and planting a lot of vegetables. If you are unable to make it to a garden store for seeds or flowers, another option is planting foods you already have at home! Try putting the ends of your lettuce in some dirt, potatoes or garlic. There is actually a lot of veggies we can grow without needing to buy seeds.
I hope you've gathered some helpful ideas for keeping you and your kids busy at home. I'd love to hear some of your ideas in the comments below!

(If you some extra pots at home or manage to pick up one, have your children paint it one day, making a lovely flower pot for your home with sweet memories!)
